Our kids nowadays are not like
old time. They ask whatever crosses their mind. They always ask why, how and
what, when something happen around them. They want to know everything. This is
good for their brain developments and assists them to learn something new and
know something different. But the major issue here is what we suppose to react?
The oldies always offer all those ‘pantang-larang’ and the dos and the don’ts without
any reasonable explanation. All those ‘pantang-larang’ are actually for our own
good because it prevents us from bad consequences but they leave us with scary
thoughts without real and true explanation. For example: Do not open umbrella inside the house, or else the sky will fall on us.
Actually they want to tell us that it is unsafe to let the umbrella wide open,
it can cause injury with all those tips and sharp steels. We can see that all
of the ‘pantang-larang’ are actually teach us good things.
If we tell our kids nowadays that the sky will fall because of the umbrella, they will argue us more. “How the sky could be fall? Do all clouds, rainbow and stars will fall too? It seems great; I can play and touch them. Can I open this umbrella mum? I want to have those stars”. We will be tortured by so many upcoming questions after that. I believe that if this situation happens to kids from the old time, they will be asked to shut their mouth-“Kids cannot ask so many questions. It’s not good. Just watch your mouth and keep it shut or else you will embarrass mum”- but if this happen these days, I believe that the closing statement could be-“That’s enough, why do you have so many questions? You drive me crazy”- We cannot stand it anymore because we actually don’t know what to answer. If we start with a lie, there will be another lie to keep the first lie, a true one.
So the lesson is… just tell them the truth and explain to them the reasons or consequences of the action. (But of course sometimes, some things are better to be kept unrevealed-So this lesson cannot be applied here)
